Job Description
Construction Inspector to support federal, state, and local government projects.
Job Duties:
- Provide oversight of the contractor to ensure compliance with contract requirements and standards. Evaluation of level of inspection, testing procedures and results, documentation of deficiency correction, etc. in accordance with client inspection requirements.
- Document compliance with construction standards and specifications.
- Complete and maintain records of field observations, including daily reports outlining the work performed, as well as field measurements and computations.
- Participate in technical review of submittals and development plans to ensure conformity to client standards and specifications.
- Document observations and inspections of construction, including discrepancy notices for non-compliant items.
- Attend and participate in construction progress meetings.
- Perform infrastructure walk-throughs and develop punch lists as required.
- Work to resolve conflicts with construction installation.
- Provide construction photographs as required to document progress and problem areas.
- Ensure that safety and other client regulations and codes were considered and followed during the construction.
- Attend contractor’s project meetings.
- Participate in tests, demonstrations, and field instructions with the appropriate personnel.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Associate’s degree in construction or engineering field
- 7 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Valid driver’s license and candidate must be insurable
- Knowledge of building and construction crafts or knowledge of transportation infrastructure (roadway, bridges, hydraulics, traffic control, etc.) since detailed inspections must be made to ensure the required level of workmanship
- Familiarity with specialized trades (MEP, structural, fire suppression, security systems, etc.)
- Ability to meet the position’s requirement for significant physical presence and movement at indoor and outdoor construction site environments with uneven terrain, variable environmental conditions, including heat, cold, dust, noise, moisture, and dryness
- Ability to meet the position’s requirement to occasionally (10-25% of workday) perform repetitive bending/stooping, repetitive or fine hand movements, working at heights, and lifting and carrying equipment weighing less than 25 pounds
- Ability to meet the position’s requirement to occasionally work with arms above shoulder level, perform power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), climb stairs, use portable ladders, wear fall protection, work in confined spaces, and lift greater than 25 pounds
- Ability to wear associated personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to gloves, safety glasses/goggles, face shield, safety shoes/boots, hard hat, hearing protection, and fall protection
- Ability to read contract drawings and specifications
- Demonstrated proficiency and effective communications skills in English in both oral and written forms
- Ability to interact with clients and contractors using professionalism, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail
- Ability to supervise and oversee the work of junior construction inspectors
- Foundational understanding of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook)
Preferred Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in field related to construction management (e.g., engineering, operations, construction management, etc.)
- 10 years of experience as a construction project inspector on large complex multimillion dollar construction projects
- Experience with a wide range of trades, including, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, roofing, and general building and traffic construction
- Advanced Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook)
- Knowledge of EM 385-1 Safety Requirements
- CQM Certification
